What Survival Mode Really Looks Like — and How to Find Your Way Out

We often think of “survival mode” as something that only happens during extreme situations — a crisis, a trauma, a major life change. But the truth is, survival mode can settle into your life slowly and quietly, until one day you look around and realize… you don’t remember the last time you felt okay.

I know because I lived there for over a decade.

Grieving Who We Were: Finding Space for the Soul in a Noisy World

In the quiet lives of our ancestors, grief was a sacred and communal experience. Before the world became so fast, so loud, and so connected by social media, we were given the space to mourn — to simply be with our sorrow. There was respect, empathy, and compassion surrounding the grieving process. People understood that grief was not something to be rushed or fixed; it was a passage to be honored.

But today, in a world flooded with constant notifications, opinions, and curated snapshots of happiness, grief has become harder to hold. We live in an age where space — real emotional space — is rarely given. The moment we share pain or loss online, it is often met with rushed advice, surface-level comments, or worse, silence and avoidance. Social media has eroded not only our understanding of grief but our collective capacity to sit with it, to allow someone the dignity of their process.

When most people hear the word grief, they think of the death of a loved one. But grief is so much more than the loss of someone physically present. It is the quiet, aching sorrow of losing parts of ourselves — the versions of us we no longer are, the dreams we let go, the identities we shed.

The Silent Burnout Cycle You Don’t Even Realize You’re In

I need you to get real with me for a second:
Has pushing through ever actually helped you relieve stress — or has it just buried you deeper?

We live in a world that glorifies the "push through" mentality. We're taught that if we just work harder, hustle faster, and ignore our exhaustion, we’ll eventually "win" — at work, at life, at everything.

But here’s the hard truth:

The push through mentality is a lie.

And if you're anything like I was, you know deep down it’s not working.

When we push through stress — when we force ourselves to "just keep going" — we aren't actually solving anything. We're layering exhaustion on top of stress... and layering burnout on top of that.

Trial by fire Darkest dark night of the soul ever!

There comes a point in every person’s life when they ask for something greater than themselves.

A calling.

A mission.

A desire to serve others in a way that transcends personal success, comfort, or recognition.

I reached that point not long ago.

I asked for more — more responsibility, more connection, more impact.

I wanted to help others wake up to who they truly are, to remember their strength, their worth, and their purpose.

I wasn’t asking for something small.

I was asking for something sacred.

And the universe answered.

But not in the way I expected.

Before I could step into that bigger role... I had to be forged.

The Fire Was the Answer to My Prayer

Nervous system regulation & healing! Danvers Ma Men’s Coach

Nervous System Regulation & the Depth of Holistic Healing Trauma isn’t just a story we carry in our minds—it’s something our bodies hold onto, often for years. As a healer, I had already spent several years working through fear, shame, and guilt—doing the deep inner work, releasing layer after layer.

But what I didn’t realize was how much of it was still embedded in the fabric of my body—stored in my fascia, my muscles, even my organs.

This wasn’t new work—it was deeper work. The kind that forces you to feel everything you thought you already healed. My body had become so constricted that it felt like it was slowly squeezing me to death. I couldn’t hold onto it any longer. Releasing these buried emotions has been a raw, painful, and powerful process.

A trial of letting go over and over again. But it’s also been a path to freedom. Through nervous system regulation and somatic healing, I’ve learned how to finally create space—space to breathe, to feel safe, and to come home to my body in a way I never had before.

This work is a reminder that healing isn’t linear. It’s layered. And every layer matters.
